KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili has left Istana Negara at 3.23pm today after an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Ongkili is the second political leader from Borneo to meet the king at Istana Negara this week after Warisan head Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal’s attendance at the palace yesterday.
Ongkili, who is minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Sabah and Sarawak affairs, arrived at Istana Negara in a black Toyota Vellfire about 2.15pm today. He could not be seen through the tinted glass, but police personnel manning the entrance confirmed his identity.
After an hour, the PBS president left the premises without stopping to speak to the press.
Earlier today, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also had an audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah here, to discuss the ending of the state of emergency, the economy and reconvening of Parliament.
Zahid who had arrived at 9.55am departed slightly over an hour later.
MIC president Tan Sri S. Vigneswaran was seen arriving at Istana Negara at 10.45am before leaving at 11.40am.
The king has been granting audience to the nation’s political leaders over the past few days.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had an audience with His Majesty on Wednesday, followed by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu the same day.
Yesterday, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man attended an audience with the king on behalf of party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, who is currently warded in hospital.
He was followed by MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, former two-time prime minister and Pejuang chief Dr Mahathir, and Shafie. – The Vibes, June 11, 2021
