MALAYSIAN nationals facing displacement due to escalating violence along the Cambodia-Thailand border are urged to contact the Malaysian Embassy in Phnom Penh for immediate support
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the embassy provided multiple channels for assistance, including email at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), a 24-hour hotline at +855 15 216 176, and the embassy website at [https://www.kln.gov.my/web/khm_phnom-penh/home](https://www.kln.gov.my/web/khm_phnom-penh/home).
The warning comes amid reports that the Royal Thai Air Force deployed T-50TH Golden Eagle jets, developed by South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Industries, to drop four bombs in Battambang province, northwestern Cambodia, on Wednesday. Local media footage shows children fleeing in panic as the airstrike reportedly targeted military positions.
The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces have claimed that the Thai aircraft, accompanied by F-16 and Gripen fighter jets, conducted the strike at around 10 a.m.
Defence Security Asia reported on 22 December that Deputy Commander of the Royal Thai Air Force, Air Marshal Praphas Sonchaidee, confirmed the T-50TH’s transition from a training platform to an operational combat jet under real warfare conditions.
The aircraft were reportedly launched from Squadron 401, Wing 4 at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base in Nakhon Sawan.
The border region had been the site of intermittent clashes since early this year, temporarily halted by a ceasefire.
Fighting reignited this month after Cambodian forces allegedly fired on Thai engineering teams constructing access roads in the contested area.
In the latest escalation, at least 23 Thai soldiers and one civilian have reportedly died, while Cambodian military fatalities are believed to be higher. The conflict has displaced approximately 600,000 people on both sides of the border. - December 25, 2025
