A PRIVATE jet crashed on the runway of La Romana International Airport in the east of the Dominican Republic on Sunday (June 7), the national aviation authority said.

The aircraft was reportedly attempting an emergency landing after a serious mechanical issue mid-flight, but as it touched down, it quickly burst into flames.

Footage shows the Gulfstream jet scraping along the runway on its rear wheels before violently bouncing and then erupting into a towering orange fireball.

The flight took off from La Romana and was headed to the city of Austin, Texas, before the tragedy.

 The statement by the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute said that the pilot and co-pilot died while no passengers were reported on board.

The aircraft was identified as a Gulfstream G200 jet. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash. – June 8, 2026
