IRAN'S Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has warned the United States and Israel against launching fresh attacks, saying any renewed hostilities could trigger a wider conflict.
The warning comes as both countries have indicated the possibility of resuming military action, fuelling concerns that fighting could erupt again.
US President Donald Trump has hinted at possible new military action after the country's midterm elections early next week.
However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Washington remained open to a diplomatic solution.
"If there is a diplomatic solution, we are open to that option," AFP reported him saying.
In Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the current situation as a "historic opportunity that comes once in a lifetime" to topple the Iranian government, following the country's general election.
Israel held its election on Tuesday but has yet to form a new government.
In a statement, Khamenei told senior military commanders that any threat, regardless of its level or form, must be met with an immediate and effective response without geographical limits.
He also instructed military commanders to update Iran's target list to include "all types of tangible and intangible assets belonging to the American-Zionist enemy".
Iran has previously warned that it could consider cutting undersea cables in the Strait of Hormuz.
The meeting was the first reported encounter between Khamenei and senior military officials.
He has not appeared in public since before assuming leadership in March, following the killing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in US-Israeli strikes.
Iranian military spokesman Mohammad Akaraminia also warned on Saturday that any resumption of hostilities would expand the scope of the war.
"The fire of war will certainly spread to a much wider geographical area," he said in a social media post.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in a post on X, warned that there would be no more "red lines" if fighting resumed. - November 1, 2026
