PHNOM PENH – The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) yesterday said it had successfully trained three dogs to detect people infected with Covid-19.
The Vietnam news agency (VNA) quoted CMAC director-general Heng Ratana as saying the three dogs were able to detect Covid-19 patients from odour samples during initial research training, adding that another seven dogs are making “significant progress”.
He said the dogs can sniff and detect Covid-19 patients in about 10-15 seconds, adding the canines can be used to detect infections at airports, border checkpoints and stadiums.
The CMAC and the University of Medical Sciences here cooperated in researching and training the dogs.
Cambodia yesterday logged 569 more cases of Covid-19 and 22 fatalities, taking the national tally to 78,474 cases and 1,442 deaths. – Bernama, August 3, 2021
