JAKARTA – The governor of the Indonesian capital and his deputy have tested positive for Covid-19, as the province sees a worrying increase in infections.
Anies Baswedan, in a statement today, said the result of his swab test yesterday returned positive, and that two days ago, his deputy, Ahmad Riza Patria, also tested positive.
“After consultations and in line with the doctor’s orders, I will self-isolate and follow the medical procedures set by the medical team.”
According to data tweeted by the National Disaster Management Agency, Jakarta is the province with the most cases in the country at 136,861.
The province recorded 1,099 new cases yesterday. Its virus death toll stands at 2,660 fatalities.
Yesterday, Indonesia recorded 4,617 fresh infections, taking the republic’s tally to 538,883. – Bernama, December 1, 2020
