ANTI-corruption authorities have launched a new investigation into alleged irregularities involving IJM Corporation Berhad, focusing on a recent share acquisition by Sunway Berhad.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the latest probe will examine whether the transaction raises elements of corruption, abuse of power or breaches in corporate governance.
“We are looking into whether the acquisition involves issues of corruption, abuse of power or governance offences,” he told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday.
Azam confirmed that the new inquiry brings the number of investigation papers opened by the commission in relation to alleged misconduct linked to IJM to three.
The first investigation concerns suspected money laundering involving approximately RM2.5 billion invested in the United Kingdom.
“The first investigation paper was opened in relation to a money laundering case involving around RM2.5 billion invested in the United Kingdom.
“The MACC is currently cooperating with the country concerned to obtain further information from them,” he said.
A second probe relates to a project undertaken by IJM, in which several individuals have already been called in to have their statements recorded. Azam indicated that the investigation remains ongoing and is expected to be protracted.
Addressing the most recent case, he said the commission was duty-bound to act given that government-owned or government-linked companies hold interests in IJM.
“So, it is our responsibility to investigate this case because we have received reports regarding the matter,” he said. - March 4, 2026
