A STRAY cat that had become a familiar presence at the Kuching district traffic police station has died, prompting an outpouring of grief from police personnel and social media users alike.

The feline, known to regularly wander into the district’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department with her kittens whenever they were looking for food, had quietly become part of the station’s daily routine.

News of her death was shared yesterday by the Facebook page Sarawak Roads Update, which posted photos and videos capturing the sombre farewell by the station’s personnel.

One video showed several traffic policemen burying the cat in an open area believed to be near the station, while another captured her sharing a meal with her kittens before her passing.

In its post, the page described the gesture as a reflection of compassion, saying kindness should extend to all of God’s creatures.

It also thanked the officers for giving the cat a dignified burial and expressed hope that they would continue caring for the kittens left behind.

The post quickly resonated with netizens, drawing more than 2,300 reactions and hundreds of comments from users who expressed sadness over the cat’s death while commending the officers for their kindness.

Many said the gesture showed a compassionate side of law enforcement that often goes unnoticed.

Although the station has lost one of its most recognisable four-legged visitors, the cat’s kittens now appear to have found new caretakers among the traffic policemen who had long looked after their mother. – July 18, 2026
