Ministry backs mobile automotive services under strict regulatory compliance
KPDN warns on consumer protection and price transparency - April 16, 2026

THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has voiced support for the rapid expansion of mobile automotive services, while stressing the need for strict regulatory compliance to safeguard consumers and ensure transparency.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Hajah Fuziah Salleh said the ministry has taken note of the growing adoption of services such as on-demand vehicle battery replacement, driven by technological advancements and evolving consumer expectations.

The position was outlined in conjunction with the launch of the 250th PitStop by BateriKu in Precinct 15, Putrajaya, part of efforts to expand access to fast, convenient and digitally enabled automotive solutions through its mobile application.

The service enables users to have vehicle batteries replaced on demand at their location without visiting a workshop, including during emergencies, supported by a network of mobile technicians aimed at delivering efficient and timely assistance.

KPDN emphasised that all service providers must comply with existing laws, including the Consumer Protection Act 1999 and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, to ensure transactions are conducted transparently, ethically and without misleading practices.

The ministry also underscored the importance of pricing transparency, stating that all charges must be reasonable and free from profiteering, in line with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.

Consumers, it said, have the right to be informed of pricing, product specifications and warranty terms before agreeing to any service.

KPDN added that it will continue to monitor developments in the sector to ensure a balance between industry innovation and consumer protection is maintained.

Members of the public have been advised to seek services from registered and reputable providers, and to conduct proper checks before committing to any transaction. - April 16, 2026
