KUALA LUMPUR – Arus Restu Sdn Bhd (ARSB) has secured a contract from Orient Link Pte Ltd (OLL) to construct a new cable landing station in Selangor to form the “last mile” connection of the mega Myanmar/Malaysia India Singapore Transit (MIST) cable system.

In a statement today, the communications solutions provider said the 8,100km optical submarine cable system, which will directly connect Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and India, is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2022.

It is designed to deliver a capacity of over 216 terabits per second to serve the bandwidth growth in Asia.

ARSB said the MIST system is invested by OLL, a strategic joint venture between NTT Ltd, Fund Corporation for the Overseas Development of Japan’s ICT and Postal Services Inc, and WEN Capital Pte Ltd.

“While this will be the first venture for ARSB, a holder of a network facilities provider licence issued by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, ARSB plans for additional new cables into Malaysia to support the government’s initiatives on internet-related programmes.”

ARSB chief executive Rozaimy Rahman said with Malaysians’ huge appetite for bandwidth and data centre growth, the new system will allow direct interconnectivity between Malaysia and the other countries served by the said system.

OLL chief executive Yoshio Sato said the system will connect clients around the world, delivering high-quality and low-latency networks to Malaysians, as the nation charges forward with its digital transformation. – Bernama, January 21, 2021
