KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia rebounded from its steep losses yesterday, boosted by bargain hunting on the first day of the second half of 2021.
At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI recovered 5.50 points, or 0.33%, to 1,537.68, with buying interest seen among lower liners and telcos, as well as the healthcare, energy and financial counters.
The market bellwether opened 0.71 of a point higher at 1,533.34 from yesterday’s close of 1,532.63.
On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 175 to 155, while 208 counters were unchanged, 1,627 untraded and nine suspended.
Turnover stood at 206.6 million units valued at RM81.3 million.
Meanwhile, the ringgit opened lower against the greenback after the release of economic indicators in the United States boosted the dollar.
At 9.02am, the local note fell to 4.1550/1580 versus the dollar from 4.1480/1500 at the close yesterday.
ActivTrades trader Dyogenes Rodrigues Diniz said the ADP Non-Farm Employment Change data released yesterday showed slightly higher-than-expected numbers. – Bernama, July 1, 2021
