TWO brothers were rescued after spending about eight hours lost while hiking in the Bukit Putus area near Kampung JKIN Extreme Park in Seremban yesterday.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the two local men, aged 55 and 60, contacted emergency services through MERS 999 after losing their way.
He said rescuers managed to establish contact with one of the men via WhatsApp before launching a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation.
"At 6.48pm, police managed to contact one of the victims by telephone, who informed us that they were at Checkpoint 6, Rigger Hills Trail, and also shared their location through the WhatsApp application," he said in a statement today.
Alzafny said police from the Paroi Police Station, together with the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), arrived at the scene at 6.17pm to begin the SAR operation.
Following the location information, SAR Team 1, comprising personnel from the police, JBPM and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), as well as a guide from Kampung JKIN, entered the forest to locate the men.
"At 10.50pm, SAR Team 2, comprising STORM JBPM personnel and another Kampung JKIN guide, was deployed to assist in the search operation.
"At 12.32am, SAR Team 2 successfully located both victims in safe condition," he said.
The two men reached Kampung JKIN at about 2.15am before being taken to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital for treatment.
Alzafny said a total of 34 personnel and four members of the public were involved in the operation.
He thanked JBPM, APM and Kampung JKIN residents for their cooperation in the rescue effort.
"Police advise members of the public who take part in recreational or hiking activities to ensure adequate preparation, inform the relevant authorities of their movements and not take safety lightly when in forested areas," he said. - August 30, 2026
