A DRIVER pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur today to three charges of dangerous driving that resulted in the death of a five-year-old child last Saturday.

The accused, Raeven Goh Wey Haur, 24, entered the plea after all three charges were read out before Magistrate Aliaa Anwar.

According to the first charge, the accused, while driving a BYD Seal electric vehicle, allegedly drove dangerously, causing the death of five-year-old Asiah Ahmad Syahir.

The prosecution was brought under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a penalty of five to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and potential disqualification from holding a driver’s license.

For the second charge, the man is accused of driving the same vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, taking into account the prevailing traffic congestion.

This charge was brought under Section 42(1) of the same Act, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of five years, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and potential disqualification from holding a driver’s license.

As for the third charge, he is accused of failing to stop after being involved in an accident while driving the same vehicle.

The act is charged under Section 52(1) of the same Act, punishable under Section 119(2) of the same Act, which carries a minimum sentence of six months' imprisonment or a fine of no less than RM2,000, upon conviction.

The alleged act took place on Jalan Kuching, from the direction of the city centre towards Jalan Segambut at 3:44 pm on October 10. – October 15, 2026
