Bargain hunting helps local bourse stay above 1,500 level

KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia was slightly higher in early trade on bargain-hunting activities, supporting the benchmark index to stay above the 1,500 level. 

At 9.05am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 5.15 points to 1,513.86 from yesterday’s close of 1,508.71.    

The market bellwether opened 0.35 of a point easier at 1,508.36. 

On the broader market, gainers led losers 197 to 126, while 246 counters were unchanged, 1,634 untraded and 10 suspended.

Meanwhile, the ringgit opened firmer against the United States dollar, buoyed by the rise in oil prices.

At 9am, the local note traded at 4.1810/1840 against the greenback from 4.1815/1830 at the close yesterday.

At the time of writing, Brent crude was up 0.47% to US$74.42 (RM311.52) per barrel. – Bernama, July 9, 2021
