KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia’s key index opened marginally higher today amid concerns over the pace of the country’s economic recovery, as daily new Covid-19 cases breached five digits for two consecutive days.

At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was 1.21 points better at 1,513.53, compared with the close of 1,512.32 yesterday.

The market bellwether opened 0.25 of-a-point better at 1,512.57.

On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers at 172 versus 135, while 238 counters were unchanged,1,683 untraded and 18 others suspended.

Turnover increased to 283.08 million units worth RM105.51 million.

The ringgit also opened slightly better against the US dollar today on renewed demand, despite declining global oil prices and concerns over the dollar inflation, according to a trader.

At 9am, the local note stood at 4.1970/1990 versus the greenback, from 4.2000/2030 at the close yesterday. – Bernama, July 15, 2021
