Bursa opens lower, ringgit falters

KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened lower today amid a lack of buying catalysts, extending last week’s downtrend as it tracked Wall Street’s weaker performance on Friday.

At 9.16am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 5.63 points to 1,570.34 from last Friday’s close of 1,575.97.

It opened 2.19 points easier at 1,573.78. 

Meanwhile, the ringgit kicked off the week on a weaker note against the US dollar today as profit-taking emerged following last week’s strong gains.

At 9am, the ringgit slipped to 4.1405/1450 versus the greenback from 4.1340/1370 at last Friday’s close. – Bernama, September 13, 2021
