KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit opened easier against the United States dollar today, in tandem with the decline in global crude oil prices.

At 9am, the local note fell by 30 basis points to 4.1865/1905 against the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.1835/1855.

Bursa Malaysia, too, opened lower due to profit-taking in selected heavyweights after yesterday’s gains, while echoing the weaker sentiment in the regional market.

At 9.10am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI fell 9.43 points to 1,537.39 from 1,546.82 at the close yesterday.

It opened 4.86 points lower at 1,541.96.

Market breadth was negative, with losers outpacing gainers 389 to 116, while 275 counters were unchanged, 1,524 untraded and 85 suspended.

Turnover stood at 392.98 million units worth RM237.78 million. – Bernama, September 29, 2021
