KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit opened marginally firmer against the United States dollar amid the uncertainty dominating the markets ahead of the release of US non-farm payrolls data later today.

At 9am, the local note rose to 4.1800/1830 versus the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.1820/1835.

Bursa Malaysia, too, opened slightly higher in tandem with its regional peers amid positive market sentiment, with buying mainly spotted in small-cap stocks.

At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI stood 1.38 points better at 1,562.67 from 1,561.29 at the close yesterday. 

It opened 0.86 of a point higher at 1,562.15. – Bernama, October 8, 2021
