KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened broadly lower today, in tandem with regional markets, as weak sentiment weighed on investors’ risk appetite, dealers said.
At 9.09am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 5.4 points to 1,542.55 compared with 1,547.95 at yesterday’s close.
The index opened 1.49 points weaker at 1,546.46.
Meanwhile, the ringgit opened lower against the US dollar on firmer buying support for the greenback, backed by better United States employment data.
At 9am, the local currency was traded at 4.1970/2005 against the greenback from 4.1930/1955 at yesterday’s close.
According to the US ADP Non-Farm Employment Change data, 807,000 of jobs in the US private sector was created against 400,000 that was forecast. – Bernama, January 6, 2022
