KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia retreated from yesterday’s gains to open marginally lower today as mild profit-taking emerged in selected heavyweights, dealers said.

At 9.26am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 0.89 of-a-point to 1,549.28 compared with 1,550.17 at Monday’s close.

The index opened 1.16 points lower at 1,549.01.

On the broader market, losers surpassed gainers 289 to 175, while 336 counters were unchanged, 1,467 untraded and 15 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 625.64 million units valued at RM207.97 million.

Meanwhile, the ringgit opened higher against the US dollar today, driven by better-than-expected economic data released by the Statistics Department (DoSM), a dealer said.

At 9.03am, the local currency was trading at 4.1955/2005 against the greenback compared with 4.1990/2020 at Monday’s close.

DoSM yesterday announced that Malaysia’s Industrial Production Index increased 9.4% year-on-year in November 2021 due to the expansion in the manufacturing, electricity and mining indices. – Bernama, January 11, 2022
