MELAKA – The state government has set up the Melaka Waterfront Economic Zone (M-Wez) corporation which will start operating at Seri Negeri here this Friday, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
He said the corporation would act as a special body to control and coordinate all forms of development as well as to promote the M-Wez corridor in an effort to attract more investors.
“The establishment of the M-Wez corporation was approved during the Melaka state assembly sitting on September 22, as an effort to ensure stakeholders’ involvement and a smooth implementation of all M-Wez projects.
“I hope all parties involved will be able to play an important role toward the success of M-Wez which is an economic enabler for the state,” he told reporters after the state administration monthly assembly here today.
At the assembly, he also launched the M-Wez Blueprint which provides a framework for policy and strategy formulation in attracting investment for the future development of the state.
Elaborating further, Sulaiman said the action plan covers economic, physical and social development strategies in line with the Melakaku Maju Jaya Strategic Plan (PSMJ) 2035, under the First Flagship, namely Melaka Economic Development.
He said the M-Wez Blueprint would be adopted by state and local authorities, government departments, and agencies directly involved in the projects, as the main reference for development approval.
The action plan also acts as an investment pilot and as the basis for applications for new project allocations under the Malaysia Plan.
“In the global development competition, Melaka needs to adopt new strategies to drive economic development and create new growth areas that are more inclusive and sustainable in line with PSMJ 2035,” he said.
In another development, he said civil servants in the state were prohibited from accepting any medals or awards from parties not recognised by the state government.
“So far, there has been no reports or cases of civil servants receiving such awards or medals but this serves as a reminder,” he said. – Bernama, April 11, 2022
