KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) has announced the appointment of Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob as its new chairman, effective last Saturday (September 3).
This will be the second time he has been elected as chairman of the agency, having first held the post from 2009 to 2012.
Sulaiman has had a distinguished career in the public service having served in various ministries and departments. Currently, he is the chief executive officer of the National Recovery Council, member of the board of directors for the Institute of Strategic and International Studies and the National Higher Education Fund.
He also chairs the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, and is a board member of Deposit Insurance Corp and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. Also active in academia, he is an adjunct professor at the Universiti Malaya and Universiti Tun Abdul Razak where he lectures in economics and public policy.
Commending Sulaiman’s appointment as Mida’s new chairman, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said, “In facing the current geopolitical realities and landscape, Mida’s role demands, more than ever before, a creative, innovative and comprehensive approach, in increasing competitiveness and resilience towards attracting quality and high-tech investments into the country.
