KUALA LUMPUR – IJM Corporation Bhd unit IJM Toll Division has pledged full support for the government’s initiative to provide payment options either via debit or credit cards to highway users.
IJM Toll Division chief executive Wan Salwani Wan Yusoff said the company, which operates the Sg Besi Highway (Besraya) and New Pantai Expressway (NPE), was fully committed to ensuring the smooth implementation of the open payment system.
“Through this, highway users will be able to use their debit or credit cards, among others, as methods for toll payment,” she said in a statement today.
According to Wan Salwani, concession companies had been engaged in discussions with the Works Ministry, Highway Authority, and other relevant parties since early this year on planning for the new system.
“Works Minister (Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi) did mention that by September this year, the open payment system will be made available to the public (and) as such we shall be putting efforts towards meeting the timeline,” she said.
On March 19, Nanta said in a statement that five highways nationwide would begin implementing an open payment system by September.
They are Besraya, NPE, Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway, Guthrie Corridor Expressway, and Penang Bridge.
According to Nanta, the open payment system was one of the initial initiatives as a transition towards the multi-lane fast-flow (MLFF) system.
Through the implementation of MLFF and the open payment system, more e-wallet providers would be able to participate, ending the Touch ‘N Go monopoly. – Bernama, March 23, 2023
