KUALA LUMPUR – Georg Chmiel, a tech entrepreneur who is rapidly growing disruptive online businesses, did not get to where he is without leaving monumental legacies.

With 30 years of experience, he led over 30 business acquisitions, on top of building global-scale expertise in strategy, innovative technology, and corporate finance.

The impressive portfolio Chmiel garnered raises the million-dollar question: How does he ensure the success of these businesses?

In an exclusive dialogue with Top Gun host Anne Edwards, the founder of Chmiel Global Advisory shared the secrets to managing numerous businesses, and how to stay on top of them.

“You can never relax, which is really important. You can’t say, ‘I’ve done everything, and now I can relax’,” he said.

“You have to constantly stay alert, you have to be very organised. I’m organised in how I manage my tasks and how I arrange my meetings.”

Chmiel added that he often challenges the businesses in five areas; the clarity of their vision, how success is measured and tracked, what the business focuses on, the cohesion of their work culture, and their relationship with investors.

However, there are always two sides to a coin. With every success that his companies achieve, obstacles follow suit.

Chmiel shared that the most common barriers the businesses face are both human and financial capital, as well as determining and living their own values, as aforementioned.

Nonetheless, the challenges posed no detriment as Chmiel’s firms stayed at the top of their industries.

Juwai IQI and Spacetalk, two of the firms in which he is involved, have dominated their respective markets, while also being reported to have skyrocketing productivity rates and value.

The most important aspect for Chmiel, however, is how the businesses have helped Malaysians in terms of employment and being at the forefront of technology and online commerce.

Chmiel’s patient and mentor-like leadership style proved to be efficacious, as numerous employees view him with reverence.

“He is straightforward and doesn’t make things complicated. He just tells you what he needs and to get it done. He doesn’t micromanage or chase you every hour,” said CGA compliance manager Vilassini Nynasekaran.

Meanwhile, CGA director Amy Rashina lauded Chmiel for opting to advise his employees when certain aspects are not optimal, instead of criticising them. As such, she said he gives a lot of inspiration to his subordinates. – The Vibes, May 19, 2023
