THE Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery was recently officially opened at the new The Light Waterfront township in Penang.
Professor Lin Xiang Xiong is a renowned artist, entrepreneur, and cultural visionary who is the founder and executive chairman of CNMC Goldmine Holdings Limited.
Lin lost his mother to the violence stemming from political unrest in his birth place of China and from a young age, he took to art as part of the grieving process.
And today, his vision of art which transcends peace, has found a home through the art gallery - the newest landmark of Penang.
Lin is also renowned in France for his art works.
The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib launched the gallery along with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and his two predecessors Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Lim Guan Eng.
Chow said that the new gallery strengthens Penang’s position as a creative and cultural centre.
“This gallery is not just another cultural facility. It reflects Penang’s spirit of creativity, progress and inclusion,” he said.
Chow congratulated Lin and all parties involved in setting up the space.
It is believed that Lin had the choices of various countries and places to site his gallery, but he chose Penang due to the vibrant arts, cultural and heritage scene.
Chow noted that the gallery supports the Penang2030 vision, especially in areas involving human capital, the creative economy and community wellbeing.
Lin said that the gallery represents his message of peace.
“I hope this gallery will inspire young people, support art education and further drive the goals of Penang2030 and Malaysia Madani,” he said.
As one of the region’s privately founded cultural projects, the gallery is also set to host international symposiums, artist residencies, and educational programmes.
Beyond serving as an exhibition space, it will act as a cultural think tank, nurturing partnerships with various institutions, universities, and peace organisations around the world. - November 17, 2025.
