A collaboration between Ikea and Phaidon, a global publisher, brings us a book titled Us & Our Planet: This is How We Live which will be released in Malaysia this month. The book gives a profound look into the lives of various groups of people including artists, activists and entrepreneurs around the world to learn about our generation's greatest challenge: living sustainably.

From Bali to Beirut, the book covers 12 diverse homes, businesses, and common spaces around the world to show how people can live with such environmental challenges in mind. Us & Our Planet seeks to urge readers to take action now to help improve our future by shining a focus on even the simplest things we can do to make our planet a little better.

Time, Space, Food, Rest, Play, and Togetherness are among the six thematic chapters, each of which includes three prominent Ikea designs, two case studies, and one photo essay by a photographer who has interpreted the chapter's theme.

In addition, the book highlights the company’s sustainable goals and it’s efforts to be more eco-friendly. Ikea has been visiting people's homes all across the world since the 1950s to discover how people live and understands that home is the most important location on earth.

Reflecting on the sustainability efforts, Lena Julle, sustainability manager of Ikea Sweden mentioned “at Ikea we work to develop and offer products, services and home furnishing solutions to inspire and enable people to live a healthier and more sustainable life at home. Our work is focused on five areas where the Ikea offer (both products and services) has a direct impact on people’s health and ability to reduce their environmental footprint at home: energy, air, water, food, and waste.”
