These 7 artists have repped Malaysia on New York Times Square Digital Billboard

A growing list of homegrown singers have been spotlighted on the billboard

THE busy Times Square area in New York is famous for its bright lights and theatres. It is also known for the sea of billboards that line the streets.

Many international artists have been featured on New York Times Square Digital Billboard. They include Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Blackpink and BTS. 

According to Hype, these are the Malaysian singers who have also been highlighted in the New York Times Square Billboard.

1. Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza

Siti was picked to represent Malaysia for the Equal Campaign created by Spotify. Malaysia’s number 1 singer is the latest artist to be spotlighted on the New York Times Square Billboard. She conveyed her pleasure in an Instagram post: “After so many milestones in music, this is one of the sweetest for me. I am truly thankful for this honour.” 

2. Vanessa Reynauld

Vanessa Reynauld, who is known for 'Putus' represented Malaysia and Singapore for the Spotify Equal campaign. The singer and songwriter was promoted on the New York Times Square Billboard in February this year. 

In an Instagram post, she wrote: “Wish I could be there to witness it cause It feels surreal, and I’m so honoured to be apart of it! Hard work paid off, and I’m so proud of myself."

3. Aina Abdul

In March this year, Aina Abdul was chosen for the Spotify Equal campaign representing Malaysia. She was spotlighted on the NY Times Square Billboard. The 'Cahayamu' singer, who hails from Johor, said: "To be on board with a number of the finest feminine musicians for the Equal marketing campaign nonetheless feels surreal to me! To one other milestone!”

4. Dolla

Last year, Malaysian girl group Dolla made it on the NY Times Square Billboard and joined the list of growing local singers. Singer Sabronzo said: “This is such a huge honour for a newly formed vocal group like us and we hope we can continue to live to the expectations of our fans”.

5. Iman Troye

The 'Harum Sundal Malam' singer broke the news to her fans with an Instagram post last year. She wrote: “Mama, my face is on the Billboard ?❤️ Alhamdulillah! so glad to be featured on Equal, representing Malaysia & Singapore on New York City Times Square”. Iman Troye remains one of the youngest local artists to be featured on the NY Times Square Billboard. 

6. Layla Sania

Layla Sania got her start when she won a singing contest in 2018. The 'By Your Side' hitmaker is one of the youngest artists to be featured on the digital billboard. She made sure to share her achievement of being on the billboard with her fans on Instagram. 

7. Yuna

Yuna's latest appearance on the Times Square billboard was as the face of Spotify’s “Our Roots, Our Sound” campaign in 2020. She has graced the billboard a total of three times.

Her first appearance was in 2016 and she was promoting her album 'Rogue' in 2018. – The Vibes, May 20, 2022
