THE second week of the reality show ‘Karaoke Superstar’ karaoke singing competition heated up between two celebrities. With a total of three wins from his five segments, singer Tomok and his fans went on to become champions for the second week, beating Adira Suhaimi who claimed a total of two wins.

"Thank you to my fans. I think it's been almost two years since I had a live show, so thank you all for coming,” said Tomok.

The judges for the second week were the legendary singer and permanent jury of ‘Karaoke Superstar’ known for her scathing comments, "Mummy" Mas Idayu, who was accompanied by actor and singer Zul Huzaimy.

The competition began with the first segment, Superfans, where representatives from their respective fan gangs put on mesmerising performances.

The first-round victory went to a fan from the Adira side named Khairul Faiz with his song 'Kesempatan Bagimu'. Khairul, who is also a teacher and fluent in Mandarin, caught the attention of Mas Idayu, whose comments shocked him.

"I did not expect it, either. This is the first time I participated in a programme of this size and received praise from a popular Malaysian jury so I am really grateful," he said after being praised by Mas Idayu.

Moving on to the second segment called Karok Uji, Adira's performance with representatives from her fan club once again won with the song 'Selamat Pengantin Baru' sung by Anita Sarawak. Tomok's performance with his fan with the song 'Kenanganku' sung by Jeffry Din failed to earn points due to his fan forgetting the lyrics.

The third round, called Karok Star Quiz, features the artist and his fans who have to choose the correct answer in the quizzes in order to be the winner in the segment. The Tomok fan club finally achieved victory in this round with a total score of 17 points, beating Adira's fan club which scored nine points.

Tomok once again grabbed an extra point in the fourth round called the Mystery Microphone. He was able to guess the persona of his close celebrity who was behind the scenes correctly. This created a tie for both celebrities.

The final evaluation of the karaoke-style singing competition will be on their mash-up performance in the Messy Up Star segment, which will also decide the champion. The song performed by Tomok is 'Ku Ada Kamu', while Adira Suhaimi sang the song 'Bagaikan Bidadari'.

Despite being slow to collect points, Tomok managed to impress the jury and the audience with his performance. He was the winner of the last segment as well as the champion for the second week of Karaoke Superstar. The stage closed with a performance by Tomok and his Mystery Microphone, Naqiu.

Who will compete in the next episode? Watch the third episode of the karaoke competition on Astro Ria channel (Channel 104) every Sunday, at 9pm. The programme can also be streamed via On Demand in the Astro Box and the Astro GO app. – The Vibes, June 16, 2022
