JONI Mitchell surprised audiences when she performed at the Newport Folk Festival this weekend.
It was her first appearance after more than two decades, according to Mother Jones.
Mitchell, 78, has reportedly been fighting several illnesses in her later years.
She suffered from a brain aneurysm in 2015, which has curtailed her ability to perform. But with the help of fellow artist Brandi Carlile, the folk legend performed a full set on Sunday.
What a wonderful night! Thank you @BrandiCarlile and @NewportFolkFest for hosting Joni’s return to the stage after all these years. https://t.co/3ucIuYbEgO

Mitchell and Carlile performed Mitchell classics including A Case of You, Both Sides Now and Big Yellow Taxi, reported The Guardian.
Mitchell also performed the guitar solo from Just Like This Train during the 13-song set.
Also present to complete the set were Marcus Mumford, Wynonna Judd, Blake Mills, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius, and Mitchell’s bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroth and Celisse Henderson.
Mitchell’s last concert was at the Wiltern in Los Angeles on November 13, 2002. – The Vibes, July 26, 2022
