KUALA LUMPUR – Project delivery partner ThinkCity is set to receive RM10 million in the RM372.3 billion Budget 2023.
In tabling the Supply Bill 2023 in Parliament this afternoon, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz dubbed the consultancy body as a major player responsible to revive appreciation of culture and heritage in Kuala Lumpur.
“I had the opportunity to visit Petaling Street which has gotten a new lease of life as a result of ThinkCity's collaboration with DBKL.
“As a way to transform the city of Kuala Lumpur into a creative hub and culture, the RM10 million allocation for ThinkCity is for its regeneration initiatives.”
Therefore, ThinkCity is the only entity named to assist in supporting the rehabilitation of arts and culture.
Apart from this development, there is a RM25 million funding promised by the govenrment to intensify community-based art, culture and heritage programmes on a grassroots level.
Established in 2009 by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, past projects realised by ThinkCity include The Downtown Kuala Lumpur Grants Programme which fund seed projects to accelerate the recovery of downtown Kuala Lumpur.
Notable programmes under ThinkCity range from fostering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in cities and building SDG City Zones, to bolstering social resilience and wellbeing.
Part of its efforts is to produce urban data analytics for more informed city-making, and to instil culture-based urban regeneration, which includes the conservation and protection of heritage.
