PRINCE Harry and his wife Meghan Markle are rejecting criticisms of their recently released Netflix documentary series 'Harry & Meghan', with a statement from their spokesman saying that the couple had never cited privacy as a reason for stepping back from their royal duties.
In the first three episodes of the much-anticipated documentary, which released earlier this week (December 8) – with another three episodes releasing next week (December 15) – the couple make a few dramatic revelations, with Meghan recalling her first death threat, Harry talking about wearing disguises to their dates, and previously unseen footage of their son Archie.
The widely seen series, which the BBC says drew 2.4 million viewers in Britain for the first episode on its first day of release, prompted criticism of the couple because it seemingly contradicted their pleas for privacy and their decrying rampant press intrusion.
The couple's press secretary rejected this criticism.
“The Duke and Duchess have never cited privacy as the reason for stepping back. This distorted narrative was intended to trap the couple into silence,” the statement said, according to the BBC.
“They are choosing to share their story, on their terms, and yet the tabloid media has created an entirely untrue narrative that permeates press coverage and public opinion.”
The statement highlighted that neither member of the couple mentioned privacy as a reason for stepping back from royal duties in January 2020, expressing a desire to continue their public roles and duties.
