YASH Raj Films, one of the most successful production companies in Bollywood, is set to release the highly-anticipated 'Pathaan' worldwide in over 100 countries, making it one of the widest openings for a Bollywood film in recent times.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham, and directed by Siddharth Anand, 'Pathaan' is part of the spy universe created by producer Aditya Chopra, which includes other successful movies, such as 'Tiger' and 'War.'

'Pathaan' was briefly censored in December of last year due to objections from India's ruling party, the BJP, but the film has since received indirect support from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who urged party workers not to make "unnecessary comments" about movies. This has helped to boost the film's anticipation amongst the public.

The Bollywood industry, which struggled in 2022 with a string of flops, has also received a boost with 25 single-screen cinemas in northern and western India that had closed due to Covid-19 reopening to screen 'Pathaan.' This is a positive sign for the industry as a whole, and it is expected that more and more cinemas will open as the situation with the pandemic improves.

Advance bookings for the film have been strong, with PVR reporting nearly 500,000 tickets sold and Inox selling 275,000. This is a clear indication that the public is excited about the movie and is looking forward to watching it on the big screen.

Box office analysts are predicting a first-day collection of INR400 million (US$5 million, RM21.4 million) in India alone, with a lifetime business of INR2-2.5 billion if the film receives positive reviews. The movie will be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on January 25, with a public holiday in India for Republic Day on the following day.

Shah Rukh Khan, it should go without saying, has been one of the biggest and most popular actors in Bollywood for the longest time. However, his most recent films have underperformed at the box office, while his most recent release as a solo hero was 'Zero' in 2018. Besides that, he has had cameos in 'Laal Singh Chaddha' and 'Brahmastra Part One: Shiva' in 2022. – The Vibes, January 25, 2023
