A NETIZEN who claims to be a teacher recently said that abolishing UPSR and PT3 was a huge mistake.

The netizen f.nraina said she teaches lower-form students and claimed that some of them could not even multiply or divide properly.

"Some Form Three students can't speak or wrte Bahasa Malaysia. Most of them drift through lessons like its a free holiday," she wrote.

She said exams like UPSR and PT3 are not just tests.

"They are about checkpoints. They ensure students actually learn the basics before moving on.

"We end up with students who graduate knowing nothing solid, who can't reason properly, who can't express themselves in their own language," she said.

She said UPSR and PT3 were not just about grades, but also discipline, responsibility and building a habit of learning.

"UPSR and PT3 give students a target, a reason to practice and review.

"Without them, we risk producing generations who are unprepared for the real challenges ahead.

"So, honestly, removing these exams isn't progress and its setting our kids up to fail," she added.

In November last year, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the government will not go back on its decision to abolish the UPSR primary school and PT3 lower secondary school examinations.

She said the government would instead focus on improving the current academic session final examination (UASA) system for Year Six and Form Three students.

The UPSR and PT3 were abolished in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

A number of netizens agreed with the teacher, claiming that the system has become too lenient and no longer emphasised mastery of core skills. – August 26, 2025
