THE Ministry of Education (MOE) is closely monitoring all institutions under its control to ensure students are not involved in any terrorism-related activities, including the Islamic State (IS) group.

Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said the MOE is always working closely with the authorities to prevent the ideology from spreading among school students, ensuring that they are protected from being influenced by such activities.

"We have handed this matter (extremist activities targeting young people) over to the authorities for investigation.

"At the same time, at the MOE level, we are monitoring student involvement in educational institutions so that such elements do not enter.

"We are working very closely with the authorities to ensure that action taken is in accordance with the law and also to protect our children, our citizens and our entire educational institution from influence, especially those closely linked to Daesh (IS) and terrorism," she said.

She said this when asked to comment on IS activities that were found to be targeting young people in this country.

This follows the arrest of six teenage boys aged 16 to 21 in a special operation by the Special Branch, Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) in several locations in the country on February 14 and 15, after being suspected of being involved in IS activities.

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, revealed that the group's activities include spreading radical ideology, recruitment, promoting propaganda materials and planning attacks involving youth, teenagers and children. – March 12, 2026
