KUALA LUMPUR – A study organised by the Higher Education Ministry has revealed that the majority of students are not mentally affected by online learning during the lockdown.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said the study to determine the quality of online learning in higher education during the pandemic has been conducted since November 15 and is now in its final stage.
She said that from the students’ perspective, 78.4% of students are not stressed by the online learning method, and 99% of higher learning institutions in Malaysia are ready to adapt to the online learning.
She said this when answering Datuk Mohd Hatta Ramli’s (Lumut-PH) question on the impact of online classes on higher learning students during the Parliament session here today.
Noraini also said with the reduction in costs involved in online learning, the ministry has lowered education fees by 20%.
The Parit Sulong MP also expressed her agreement with the Lumut MP’s suggestion to review the university system in Malaysia for the possibility of adapting online learning in the long term.
“We have been studying the quality of online learning for the higher education sector, and the findings in this study will be used as input to determine the direction of higher education post-pandemic.
“We hope that this (long-term implementation of online learning) will ensure higher student intake,” she added. – The Vibes, September 20, 2021
