Abang Jo: Sarawak’s free tertiary education disciplines to be announced by October
"Sawarak is the only state that offers free education involving a number of degree programmes," said Abang Jo - March 14, 2025

THE selected disciplines that come under Sarawak's free tertiary education discipline will be announced by October this year, said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

The first intake of eligible students under this initiative will begin early next year.

"Sawarak is the only state that offers free education involving a number of degree programmes.

"We want to develop the state through free education and we have chosen the disciplines which will be announced in October," he said.

He said the students can then select the disciplines in line with the industries the state is developing, in line with the new economy.

It was earlier reported that Sarawak's free education initiaive would be implemented in 2026 - making it the first state in Malaysia to offer such a programme.

Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn had said that applications from students would be opened after November.

He also mentioned that no quotas were set. - March 14, 2025
