IPOH – The Higher Education Ministry has approved the establishment of Universiti Keusahawanan Koperasi Malaysia (UKKM) which will open a new chapter in efforts to strengthen the entrepreneurship agenda, especially at institutions of higher learning (IPT).
Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad said UKKM will be placed under the supervision of the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.
“We approved the establishment of the university so that other IPTs can collaborate and complement each other.
“This is not only from the aspect of developing student and graduate entrepreneurs, but also from the aspect of research and innovation in the field of entrepreneurship,” she said here yesterday.
Noraini handed over the letter of approval to Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar at the Perak Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Consolidation programme as well as the KPT Prihatin Keluarga Malaysia programme, which was also attended by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Meanwhile, Noh said that UKKM is expected to start operating this September in Cyberjaya, enrolling about 500 to 1,000 students.
“This approval coincides with the 100th anniversary celebration of cooperatives in the country on July 22.
“We will create a scheme called the Informal & Micro Loan scheme with an allocation of RM200 million that will not only help entrepreneurs but also graduates, without any interest rate charged.
“It will also encourage and facilitate graduates to venture into this field as the repayment can be done after a year,” he explained. – Bernama, April 29, 2022
