KUALA LUMPUR – The sudden announcement by Education Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin on the resumption of physical classes have caught many parents off guard.

The Friday announcement revealed that Year 1 and 2 students will be going back to school starting March 1, leaving parents just over a week to prepare.

Students in Years 3 to 6 are expected to return to school on March 8 while secondary school students will have to wait until the SPM 2020 exams are over.

Many took the opportunity to shop for uniforms, shoes, stationery and more over the weekend, causing a frenzy in retail stores.

A hypermarket in Shah Alam was doing brisk business as parents and their children were out in droves.

However, some lamented that they had just purchased devices and items needed for online learning.
