KUALA LUMPUR – When we talk about frontliners, the people that first come to mind are medical staff in hospitals such as doctors, nurses, and ambulance drivers – besides police, soldiers, and firefighters.
In fact, however, those who work as cleaners are also frontliners.
In this Covid-19 pandemic, the work done by cleaning workers, including sweepers and garbage collectors, as well as tree cutters and dry leaf pickers, are indeed needed.
Imagine what would happen if no one cleaned urban areas, picked up dry leaves, or hauled garbage during the current movement control order.
Within a day, the city and housing estates would surely be filled with rubbish.
Although many of them are foreigners, there are still locals who are given the responsibility to clean up the city. Even as we respect medical personnel, police, soldiers, firefighters, and others as frontliners, these people should also be given attention.
As the city becomes quiet due to MCO 3.0, they are the ones who continue to work in every corner of the capital to keep it clean from garbage.
