KANNADASAN, a renowned Tamil lyricist, poet, and novelist of the 20th Century after Bharatiyar and Bharathidasan contributed immensely to the Tamil film industry for over four decades.

"Kannadasan’s verses explored emotions with intimacy, depth and literary flair", said MIC Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

Speaking at the recent Kannadasan Kuala Lumpur, he said Kannadasan's poeticism captured the very essence of life and death and everything in between making his songs immortal.

"History will always remember him for his prolific and poignant work.

"Kannadasan’s work gave prominence to songs in Tamil cinema. His songs have enlightened and empowered successive generations like no one before or after him,” he said.

Kannadasan has written over 5,000 songs and 232 books, in prose and poetry, about various religions.

He wrote Tamil in such a simple and spoken style, easily understood by the common man and conveyed very deep meaning in plain and simple style.

Saravanan, who is also the Tapah MP said Kannadasan wrote songs for both MGR (M. G. Ramachandran) and Sivaji Ganesan, two of the most prominent actors in Tamil cinema.

“Whether it was MS Viswanathan, KV Mahadevan or llayaraja, Kannadasan had remained the go-to-man with a flow of words that magically fit into the varied tunes the maestros had churned out.

The legendary lyricist Kannadasan left a legacy that nobody could match even to date,” he said.

An important contribution to the Hindu society is his book “Arthamulla Hindu Madham” which explains the significant foundation on which the foundation of the Hindu philosophy is based upon.

Saravanan has continuously championed for the Tamil language and literature through various channels considering his deep knowledge of the matter.

At the event there were poetry recitals, literary speeches by prominent speakers Thaamal K.Saravanan, and recognition for locals actively working in the area of Tamil literature. – July 1, 2025
