THE Penang 2030 (development) masterplan has now reached the mainstream level of society here with more Penangites buying into its objectives.

After the initial lull years, the masterplan which seeks to develop the state into an intelligent world - class cosmopolitan city, is now well received in Penang, even in the Opposition-held mainland areas, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

He said that the website tracker - penang2030.com revealed that 80% of its initiatives and plans have been adopted or were in the process of taking-off.

The remainder would be implemented soon and hopefully before Chow ends his last and second term by not later than 2028.

Chow said this at the launching of 12 short videos which detailed human interest tales of residents who benefitted from the Penang 2030 development goals.

The videos would be uploaded within the next seven days, and it captures the lives of the ordinary residents here, with focus on the Malay, Chinese and Indian communities, who dominate the population base.

Chow said that the initiatives would also be finetuned to cope with concurrent challenges.

He said that not many people are aware that out of the 13 industrial estates in Penang, 10 are located on the mainland of Prai, including the new areas of Bandar Cassia and Batu Kawan.

With more land available on the mainland, Chow said that it was also inevitable that more attention would now be devoted to Prai. - July 21, 2025.
