THE Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is reinforcing its commitment to Malaysia’s creative industries through the launch of My Gaya Month 2025 (MGM2025), a fashion and lifestyle-centric retail campaign held in collaboration with the Malaysian Bumiputera Designers Association (MBDA).

Hosted throughout October at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, MGM2025 is a key component of the Buy Malaysian Products Campaign (KBBM), designed to elevate the visibility and commercial viability of local fashion talent.

"Through MGM2025, we aim to strengthen the local fashion ecosystem and enhance its competitiveness. This event reflects the government’s dedication to nurturing creativity, innovation and national identity within Malaysia’s fashion industry," said Domestic Trade Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

The event features a mix of retail booths, fashion forums, product launches, styling workshops, and meet-and-greet sessions with designers, influencers and celebrities. A fashion runway will showcase the work of 20 local designer labels alongside collections from 10 fashion institutions and academies.

In 2024, My Gaya Month recorded RM1.1 million in sales, a 39.16 per cent increase from RM802,000 in 2023.

"Malaysians are encouraged to show their support for local designers and entrepreneurs. Every ringgit spent on local brands helps promote homegrown talent and strengthens Malaysia’s cultural identity on the global stage," the minister added.

According to a May 2025 report by Shopperboard, fashion-related e-commerce in Malaysia is projected to reach a transaction penetration rate of 19.2 per cent, with sales totalling US$5.24 billion this year.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) estimates the country’s textile and apparel industry to be worth US$3.5 billion annually, with growth expected to reach US$4.47 billion by 2030.

"Jom Beli Lokal," said Datuk Armizan, reiterating the ministry’s call to support local products as a means to drive sustainable national economic growth. - October 2, 2025
