MALAYSIAN-born international film star Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has cemented her place in cinematic history with the unveiling of her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, describing the honour as both “crazy” and “surreal”.
The 64-year-old actress was celebrated in an emotional ceremony attended by fans and close collaborators she described as her “chosen family”.
Reflecting on her journey from Hong Kong action cinema in the 1990s to global stardom, Yeoh said she had never imagined her name would one day be etched along Hollywood Boulevard.
“The star may be a symbol, but it represents so many people who made this journey possible.
“I hope it also reminds someone, somewhere, that everything is possible. Where we begin does not determine how far we can go,” she said.
Yeoh dedicated the accolade to her mother and her late father, calling it “our star”.
Among those paying tribute at the ceremony were Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee and filmmaker Jon M. Chu. Lee praised Yeoh as a formidable screen presence with exceptional talent and professionalism, while Chu described her as a “beacon of hope” who has inspired generational change within the global film industry.
Yeoh rose to prominence in Hong Kong action films before achieving worldwide recognition in titles such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies and Crazy Rich Asians.
Her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2023, making her the first Asian performer to win the category.
In addition to the Hollywood honour, Yeoh was recently presented with the Honorary Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement at the Berlin International Film Festival, further underscoring her enduring impact on international cinema. - February 19, 2026
