PUTRAJAYA – Two cats of the British shorthair breed from the Ukraine are held at the Cargo Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang after their microchip numbers were found to not be the same as those stated in their import permit.
Selangor Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) director Dr Tarmisal Alimin said in a statement today this was detected during an inspection last Wednesday.
He said it is an offence to import pets by declaring false, inaccurate or misleading information, as provided under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine Services and Inspection Act 2011, which provides a fine of not more than RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama, December 18, 2020
