MALAYSIA'S best-selling off road commercial and urban workhorse vehicle, the Toyota Hilux, will ramp up its strength, capability and attitude to even greater levels with the introduction of a new model during the last quarter of this very testing year. Pricing is estimated at RM93,880 - RM148,880. An early bird discount of RM4,000 is applicable on the full-spec Hilux 2.8 Rogue.
The dramatically styled new Hilux Rogue will extend the "unbreakable" reputation of Hilux with features that boost off-road protection, recovery and functionality.
The 1G-FTV 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine has received improvements which raise both power output and torque. Maximum power output is now 204PS at 3,400 rpm (27PS increase), while maximum torque is 500Nm between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm (50Nm increase).
Toyota engineers improved performance and fuel economy simultaneously by adopting a larger, heavy-duty turbocharger with a ball-bearing cartridge for exceptionally crisp and strong throttle response, and a new common-rail injection system with a higher maximum fuel pressure of 250 MPa.
The Rogue receives a new grille with a honeycomb insert as well as LED fog lamps which have an upgraded bezel finished in gloss. The new luxury look also includes black 18-inch alloy wheels. Toyota says this helps to give it a more imposing road presence and aggressive aesthetic.
At the rear, the Hilux Rogue design is cleaner and more powerful with strong fender shoulders that extend rearwards, a unified line that connects the cabin and deck, and steel bumpers. Distinctive new taillights for pick-ups enhance night-time visibility and reduce power consumption.
The Rogue is one of the better-looking 4x4 pickup trucks on the road today.
Equipment levels have also been expanded, including an 8-inch display with control knobs rather than touch-screen operation for easier use. The multimedia system has enhanced voice recognition and adopts Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
New-look instrument dials sit either side of the 4.2-inch multi-information display, which incorporates a digital speed readout, among other new functions.
Engineers further developed the rear suspension of the eighth-generation Hilux, which introduced longer leaf springs to suppress road vibrations, wider spacing of the springs for stability while cornering under load, and revised attachment points to promote steering stability.
This 2020 model has resulted in retuning of spring rates, shock absorbers and suspension bushes as well as revised cabin mounts. These improvements are designed to deliver a more agile handling response and improved ride comfort, particularly when unladen on country roads and over speed humps. – The Vibes, September 24, 2020
