META’S Threads is rapidly closing in on X in terms of daily active users on mobile platforms, according to newly released data by market intelligence firm Similarweb, as reported by Xinhua.
Bernama-Xinhua reported the data reveals that in June 2025, Threads reached 115.1 million daily active users on its iOS and Android apps, marking a significant 127.8 per cent year-on-year increase. In comparison, X – formerly known as Twitter – saw 132 million daily active users, representing a 15.2 per cent year-on-year decline.
In the United States alone, Threads recorded 15.3 million daily mobile users, compared with 22.9 million on X.
While X continues to lead overall, Similarweb’s analysis indicates that Threads is emerging as a formidable competitor on mobile devices. However, X maintains a substantial advantage on the web.
According to Similarweb, X attracted an average of 145.8 million daily web visits worldwide in June, far outpacing Threads, which saw only 6.9 million web visits per day globally.
Threads currently has 350 million monthly active users, as disclosed in Meta’s most recent earnings report. X, now a privately held company under Elon Musk’s ownership, is no longer obligated to publish user metrics. Musk previously claimed in 2024 that X has 600 million monthly active users.
Though Threads is gaining ground in the mobile space, the data highlights that X retains strong engagement across web platforms, underscoring the complexity of the rivalry between the two social networks. - July 8, 2025
