THE Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) will continue to raise its voice on matters concerning the growing healthcare sector, particularly the need for improved fringe benefits for medical practitioners, amid the mounting cost of living.
MMA president Datuk Dr Kalvinder Singh Khaira reaffirmed the association’s stance on remaining impartial while advocating for all issues within the medical fraternity.
“We will be impartial and continue to address all matters affecting the profession,” he said, noting that ongoing concerns over poor working conditions in the public sector and salary-related grievances risk undermining industrial harmony within Malaysia’s healthcare landscape.
Dr Kalvinder was speaking during the MMA’s 65th anniversary dinner held at G Hotel in Penang, where he highlighted the association’s role as a consistent advocate for medical professionals.
Among the dignitaries present were Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, and Penang Health Exco Daniel Gooi Zi Sen. The event was chaired by Datuk Dr Paramjit Singh.
In his remarks, Chief Minister Chow praised the MMA’s enduring presence as one of Malaysia’s oldest professional bodies, describing it as “a strong and consistent voice for doctors and nurses.”
He added that Penang, which hosted the MMA’s 65th Annual General Meeting and scientific conference, continues to grow its reputation as a leading medical hub for the northern region and aims to cement its position as a regional centre for healthcare excellence.
