BAYAN Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin has made affordable health the focus of his term as a lawmaker and is determined in helping the Madani government find ways to alleviate rising costs of healthcare in the country.

Sim, who has relatives who are medical specialists, said he recently visited the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, and was keen to report that many patients were pleased with the services rendered by both the doctors and supporting staff such as nurses.

He added that he also plans to make medical insurance coverage more affordable for the working class.

The three-term parliamentarian, who is also a former deputy agriculture and agro-based minister, said that access to proper healthcare is a fundamental human right.

Among those lending support is former Batu Uban assemblyman Dr T. Jayabalan, who said that pharmaceutical and specialist treatments need special attention.

Jayabalan has long championed the need for affordable healthcare in the country.

He has taken note that since the pandemic, there is a surge in people seeking treatment at public hospitals and clinics.

It is also in line with the trend that Malaysia is fast approaching an aging nation status where 15 percent of its population is said to be aged 60 and above. - October 5, 2025.
