THE Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported a marginal increase in influenza infections for Epidemiological Week 42 of 2025, with cases rising to 10.56 per cent compared with 9.63 per cent the previous week.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the situation remains under control and urged the public not to panic.
“What we want to convey, especially to parents and the wider community, is that if children or family members show, they should come immediately to our health facilities,” he said.
“We have comprehensive and effective procedures in place. What I hope is that the public does not panic. We have regular reports and are studying the patterns and trends. I hope Malaysians will not be unduly worried about the rise in influenza cases.”
Lukanisman was speaking to reporters after officiating the 2025 National-Level MyChampion Awards Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, which recognises the contributions of MyChampion volunteers who serve as agents of change in promoting public health.
The MyChampion initiative, part of the National Healthy Malaysia Agenda (ANMS), was developed by the Health Ministry to train volunteers to encourage healthy behaviour within their communities.
To date, around 17,000 active volunteers have registered under the initiative through the MySejahtera application, spanning nine ministries including the Prime Minister’s Department.
Addressing recent floods affecting several states, Lukanisman said the ministry remains on high alert and ready to deploy emergency, psychosocial, and mental health response teams to assist those impacted.
“We have sufficient experience and we urge the public not to panic. Should such disasters occur, we are prepared and will deploy our officers to the field and to flood management centres across the country,” he said.
The Health Ministry continues to monitor influenza trends closely and maintains that existing preventive measures and health facility readiness are adequate to manage the current situation. -October 26, 2025
