PENANG is proving to be the ‘tastiest state’ in the country with 74 eateries recognised by the leading gastronomic referral-the Michelin food guide.

The guide made public its recognition of quality food outlets at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur, under the auspicious of the Michelin Kuala Lumpur and Penang food guide.

Out of the 151 eateries which they entered nationwide, nearly half hailed from Penang.

A beaming state exco for tourism, Wong Hon Wai said that this recognition would further drive the industry.

And the recognition was for the state's unique culinary culture such as the peranakan food, street food such as char koay teow (fried noodle) and koay teow thung (soupy noodle).

Five more Penang outlets entered the Michelin Selected category, celebrated for their tastes and yes, the emphasis given to preserving fair value prices.

They are Blacklinen, Du-An (Lebuh Pantai) , Mémoire, Peninsula House and Sood by Chef Ton.

Penang's Michelin Star veterans, Au Jardin and Auntie Gaik Lean's Old School Eatery retained their coveted stars.

"The Michelin Guide has become an important reference for culinary tourists. This recognition not only enhances Penang's brand but also translates into tangible benefits for our tourism and dining industries," Wong said.

The inaugural Michelin Guide for Kuala Lumpur and Penang was unveiled in 2022, marking the inclusion of Malaysian restaurants in the prestigious guide for the first time.

The full honour list is available online at the guide.michelin.com - November 12, 2025.
